Refer to AWWA literature for basic valve start-up best practices. The following steps may be used to ensure that start-up is accomplished with a minimum amount of water hammer. Prepare the Station for Start-up * Close all maintenance shut-off butterfly valves on all lines, all ACV Control Piping Ball Valves and all drain lines / test cocks. *Charge the system one line at a time. * Slowly open the inlet maintenance valve and bleed the air from the line. * Open the ACV Control Piping Inlet Ball Valve * Open the ACV Cover Vent Ball Valve to bleed the air. Close it when all air is discharged. * Open the ACV Control Piping Downstream Ball Valve * Recheck that all the air is bled from the line. * Slowly Open the Discharge Maintenance Valve to charge the downstream line. Set the Desired Pressure for the ACVs - This must be done one line at a time, with the other line(s) in a shut-off condition. *Slowly create a flow demand on the line that is to be set. (min 2 gpm) * Using an outlet pressure gage as a guide, slowly adjust the PRV Pilot adjustment screw ... In to decrease the limit ... Out to increase the limit. |
